MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The No. 14 nationally Life University men's volleyball team got back on track Wednesday night with a 3-2 win over Reinhardt University in Mid-South Conference action.
NOTES
• Life U improved to8-3 (5-3) on the year as Reinhardt dropped to 8-9 (6-5).
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Carlos Negron led the Running Eagles offensively with 22 kills and 11 digs. He added a solo block and a block assist.
•
Felipe Gonzalez finished with 20 kills as
Alex Cabana totaled three block assists and 10 kills.
•
Jonathan Lemos totaled 48 assists and two service aces.
Javier De Leon led the team with 17 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Life U jumped out to an early 6-3 lead in the first set. Reinhardt cut the lead to one, 13-2, before a 4-1 run from Life U included kills from Negron and Henson to lead 17-13. A late 5-1 run from Reinhardt tied the set at 20, before Negron added three kills in a 5-2 run to end the set 25-22.
• Life U led 14-8 early in set two after a pair of errors from the Eagles. A 5-1 run from Reinhardt brought the set to within one, 17-16. Life U managed to put together kills in the final stretch of the set as a service error gave Life U the 25-21 set win.
• Reinhardt led 9-6 early in set one after a service error. A 6-2 Life U run ended on a kill from Negron as Life U took the 14-13 lead. An 8-1 run in response from Reinhardt gave the Eagles a 21-15 lead. Life U brought the set to within one, 23-22, with the kill from Ollie, however Reinhardt finished the set on a pair of attack errors to win 25-22.
• Life U led for the majority of the fourth set, as a block from Negron gave the Running Eagles a 12-10 advantage. Reinhardt answered with a 6-2 run to lead 16-14 after a service ace. Life U managed to tie the set at 23 late with a block from Perez and Ollie, however a service error and a service ace gave Reinhardt the 25-23 win to force a fifth set.
• Life U jumped out to an early 5-3 lead in set five with the kill from Negron. Reinhardt Quickly tied the set at six, but back-to-back kills from Gonzalez put the Running Eagles ahead 10-7. Reinhardt answered with a kill of its own, however Life U finished the match on a 5-0 run to earn the 15-8 match win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U led Reinhardt in kills 66-46. Life U finished with a hitting percentage of .284 as Reinhardt finished with a .178.
• Life U led Reinhardt 62-41 in assists and 53-31 in digs.
• Reinhardt led Life U in blocks, 6-11, and aces, 6-3.
