COLUMBIA, Ky. ---- The Life University women's volleyball team fell in a pair of matches Saturday afternoon at Lindsey Wilson despite tallying 103 kills in the two matches.
The Running Eagles started the day with a 3-1 loss to (RV) Lindsey Wilson in Mid-South Conference action. Life U fell in the opening sets 25-19 and 25-16 before rallying to win the third set 25-23. The Blue Raiders closed out the match in the fourth set with a 25-18 win. Life U led Lindsey Wilson in all statistical categories, however 32 attack errors gave the Blue Raiders the win.
Life U led 51-47 in kills, 6-4 in aces, 8-7 in blocks, 49-43 in assists and 85-80 in digs. Individually,
Lena Pucnik led the way offensively with 18 kills and 11 digs. Also finishing with a double-double was
Brie Montgomery who tallied 21 assists and 10 digs with a pair of service aces.
Caitlyn Neal added 11 kills as
Kennedy Neal tallied 25 assists.
Morgan Furness, Fayola Louis and
Mary Zimmerman each added three block assists as
Marin Black totaled 26 digs.
In the second match of the day, Life U fell in five sets to No. 24 IU Kokomo. The Cougars won the first set 25-20, as the Running Eagles took sets two and three 25-23 and 25-20. IU Kokomo bounced back to earn the win in the fourth and fifth sets 25-20 and 15-8. Errors again plagued the Running Eagles who finished with 62 kills, but totaled 31 errors. Life U led in digs 62-61 and aces 8-5, however IU Kokomo led 14-6 in blocks and 62-60 in assists.
Individually, three Running Eagles finished in double figures in the kills category as Pucnik led the way with 15. Louis added 13 as C. Neal finished with 13 as well. K. Neal picked up four service aces with 27 assists as Montgomery also finished with 27 assists. Black led the team defensively with 23 digs.
The women's volleyball team will return to action on Monday, March 29, as they welcome Martin Methodist College in MSC action at 7 PM in the Eagles' Nest.
