MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The Life University women's volleyball team improved to 5-1 and 19-4 overall with a pair of Mid-South Conference wins over the weekend.
The Running Eagles started the weekend of action with a 3-1 win over Thomas More Friday night. Despite a low hitting percentage, the Running Eagles were able to win the opening two sets 25-13 and 31-29 and earned a 27-25 win in set four. Individually,
Marin Black totaled 43 kills with a pair of service aces.
Lena Pucnik continued to add to her totals with a double-double on 14 kills and 12 digs with four service aces and three block assists. Fayola Louis also finished well with 10 kills. The pair of
Kennedy Neal (26) and
Brie Montgomery (18) continued to lead Life U in assists as
Savannah Keener added 18 digs.
Morgan Furness (5) and
Mary Zimmerman (4) controlled the net as they led the team in block assists.
In the second game of the day, the Running Eagles fell to No. 22 Keiser who remains undefeated on the year in three sets. Life U finished with 27 kills and 29 errors in the loss, but led the Seahawks in aces 9-4, and blocks 6-4. Individually, Black added 20 digs to her total with a service ace. Pucnik added eight kills with a career-high five service aces as
Mary Zimmerman also added eight kills with two block assists. K. Neal finished with 11 assists as Montgomery totaled 10.
Wrapping up the weekend, Life U earned the 3-0 sweep over Shawnee State on Saturday winning the sets 26-24, 25-18 and 25-17. Life U totaled 41 kills and led Shawnee State in all statistical categories except for blocks. Pucnik led the Running Eagles with 13 kills and 20 digs as she added four service aces from behind the line. Zimmerman finished in double figures with 13 kills and a .417 hitting percentage. Black added 22 digs in the sweep as K. Neal finished with 18 assists and Montgomery tallying 12.
The women's volleyball team currently sit in a tie for second in the MSC standings with Georgetown, who the Running Eagles have defeated this season. No. 15 Lindsey Wilson leads the pack with a 6-0 record in conference action. The Running Eagles will return to action on Thursday, March 11 as they host Cumberland University at 3:30 PM in MSC action and Bryan College at 7:30 PM in the Eagles' Nest.
