Women's Lacrosse Loses Close Game to No.2 Univ. of the Cumberlands, 11-9

MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The No. 7 nationally ranked Life University women's lacrosse team held the lead through the first frame of play, but could not hold on late against a surging, second-ranked University of the Cumberlands, falling in a tightly contested game 11-9 at home Friday evening.

NOTES
• Despite the strong performance, Life U's record falls to 8-5, while Cumberlands (Ky.) keeps its record perfect at 10-0.

• Lacy Legaspi led all players with four goals in the day, while also assisting on another score off a very efficient seven total shots (six on goal). Legaspi also picked up two ground balls.
Tina Ricci matched Legaspi with five total points, but with hers on three goals and two assists. The senior also stuffed the rest of her stat sheet with three ground balls, two caused turnovers, and a game high seven draw controls.
Tori Adcox added the only other two Life U goals off of only three shots all of which were on frame.
• Leanne Windon and Maria Arvizu both had excellent games on the defensive side, collecting six ground balls and causing seven turnovers each. Arvizu also added on an assist and five draw controls.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The first half was a back-and-forth affair, Life U recording the first goal of the game at 24:53 which Cumberlands  (Ky.) answered relatively quickly. After the Running Eagles took the lead back on a Ricci goal, the Patriots ran off three-straight goals from the 12:29 to 8:25 mark of the game, but Life U answered with three of their own to take a 5-4 lead into halftime.
• Cumberlands (Ky.) found some momentum early in the second half, posting three goals to Life U's one over the first four minutes to take a 7-6 advantage. Legaspi tied things up shortly before the 20 minute mark of the second at 7-7, but two-straight Patriots' scores gave them the lead for good. The team's traded scores after that point as No. 2 Cumberlands (Ky.) held on for the 11-9 win.
