BOWLING GREEN, Ky. ---- The Life University women's volleyball team fell in the Mid-South Conference Tournament Semifinal to Georgetown College Friday afternoon 3-2, as the Tigers secured a spot in the NAIA National Championships with the win.
NOTES
• Life U finishes the season to 28-10 as Georgetown improved to 15-5.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Both
Caitlyn Neal (11) and
Mary Zimmerman (10) finished in double digits for the Running Eagles in kills.
•
Marin Black finished with a team-high 21 digs and five service aces.
•
Kennedy Neal tallied a double-double with 37 assists and 12 digs with a pair of service aces and a pair of block assists.
• Fayola Louis and
Michele O'Haver each finished with 11 digs in the match.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Life U trailed 11-9 in the first set before a string of errors from Georgetown gave the Running Eagles a 15-12 lead. Life U maintained a narrow lead the rest of the set as a kill from C. Neal and an ace from K. Neal ended the first set 25-21.
• Life U jumped out to an early 7-3 lead in the second set as Mollick and Zimmerman picked up the block. Georgetown responded with a 6-0 run to lead 9-7. After tying the set at nine, Georgetown extended its lead to four, 15-11, after a service ace. Life U answered with an 8-2 run to take the lead 19-17. Trailing 21-19, Georgetown earned set point with a 5-0 run, 24-22. A kill from C. Neal and three errors from Georgetown gave the Running Eagles the second set 26-24.
• Neither team held much of a lead in the early goings of set three, until a 4-1 Georgetown run gave the Tigers a 17-14 lead. The Tigers again earned set point ahead 24-19, as the Running Eagles rattled off three points in a row to cut the lead to two, 24-22. A Georgetown kill ended the set 25-22.
• Life U trailed 5-2 early in set four, but used a 4-0 run to lead 6-5. Georgetown put the set away with a 9-0 run to lead 14-6. Life U was unable to put a run together as Georgetown forced a fifth set with the 25-12 win.
• Life U took a 9-7 lead in the fifth set after a service error from Georgetown. The Tigers answered with a 5-1 run to take the 12-10 advantage. An attack error from Georgetown cut the lead to one, 12-11, however the Tigers finished the match on a 3-0 run to win 15-11 and advance to the MSC Tournament Championship.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U finished with 50 kills to the 57 from Georgetown. Life U finished with a hitting percentage of .127 as Georgetown finished .198.
• Both teams finished with eight total blocks. The Tigers held a slight 8-7 advantage in service aces over the Running Eagles.
• Georgetown edged Life U in assists 54-43 and 82-71 in digs.
