MARIETTA, Ga. --- The Life U men's soccer team came alive in the second half, unleashing an offensive blitz to cruise away from Faulkner University, 4-1, on the road Friday evening, opening the season with a strong win.
NOTES
• The runaway victory sees Life U open the season 1-0, while Faulkner falls to 0-2.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
•
Stan Vandierendonck recorded a game-high two goals, off of just three shots, both of which came in the second half of play.
•
Wilfried Tchoupa Kamden scored Life U's first goal, while attempting a game-high four shots, one of which was on goal.
•
Jamie Lightfoot also got in on the scoring, his coming in the second half on his only shot during the contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Running Eagle found itself on its back foot through the opening minutes of the game, but following goal keeper Fabian Pekhrul shutting down two on-frame attempts, the offensive momentum completely flipped to Life U's side. In the 14th minute Tchoupa Kamden broke through for the first score of the game off a good
Bart Kooistra pass. Following the first five minutes of the half, Life U held a 12-4 advantage in shots attempted over the first half, heading to the break maintaing a 1-0 advantage.
• After neither team found much clearance over the first 10 minutes of the second, Life U scored twice over a four minute span. The first coming from Lightfoot, while Vandierendonck pushed the lead to 3-0 after converting on a penalty kick. With just over 10 minutes to play, Faulkner finally broke through for its first score, getting on the board at 3-1, but Vandierendonck pushed the advantage back to three in the final minutes of the game. His second score gave the final of 4-1 for the night.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Life U outshot Faulkner in a lopsided manner, 19-8, while holding a slight advantage in shots on frame, 7-6.
• Pekruhl secured five saves while the Eagles goal keeper earned three.
• Life U trailed on corner kicks 3-1, while finding themselves penalized more often at 14-7.
