LEBANON, Tenn. ---- The No. 18 nationally ranked Life University women's volleyball team held on late to earn the 3-1 road Mid-South Conference win over Cumberland University Wednesday night.
The Running Eagles started the match quickly with a 25-10 win in set one and a 25-19 win in set two. The Phoenix offense responded in the third set with a 26-24 win, as the Running Eagles closed out the match in the fourth set 26-24.
Life U dominated the early sets statistically, however Cumberland narrowed the gap in the final two sets. Life U still led in all statistical categories except for digs with a 54-49 advantage in kills and a .224 hitting percentage compared to the .154 from Cumberland. The Running Eagles held a 10-2 advantage in service aces and an 8-4 lead in blocks while the Phoenix held an 88-85 lead in digs.
Lena Pucnik paced the offense on a double-double with 16 kills and 17 digs as well as three service aces.
Fayola Louis also finished in double figures with 13 kills and three block assists.
Madison Evans added 12 kills with a pair of block assists.
Jessie Prichard totaled 49 assists in the match with 10 digs and three block assists as
Marin Black finished with a team-high 26 digs.
Savannah Keener added three service aces and 19 digs as freshman
Chloe Teter came in with three service aces.Â
The women's volleyball team will continue the MSC road trip tomorrow, Thursday, September 23, as they head to Columbia, Ky. In a pinnacle matchup, the No. 18 Running Eagles will battle the No. 13 Blue Raiders of Lindsey Wilson at 7 PM.Â
