Running Eagles Storm Past Toppers in SSAC Play

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – The Life University women's soccer team won its third straight conference contest Saturday afternoon in a 3-1 win over Blue Mountain College. Life University had three separate goal scorers impact the game, with both Anakah Madril and Justine Kuiper now finding goals in two consecutive contests.

Jeanne Brigand opened the scoring in the 25th minute, while Anakah Madril made an immediate impact just moments later, scoring her fourth goal of the week. Sophomore Justine Kuiper continued her impressive week as well, scoring her third goal of the season and week in Saturday's contest.

Life U. (6-5-2, 4-2-1 SSAC) began the scoring in the first half with Jeanne Brigand's goal in the 25th minute before the Running Eagles doubled the team's lead just moments later with Anakah Madril's goal 50 seconds later.

The Running Eagles limited the toppers to a single shot in the first 45, while firing six shots (and scoring two) of their own in the first half.

After a strong offensive performance with back to back goals in the opening half of play, the Toppers held Life University level for the next 40 minutes.

Starting goalkeeper Grace Staunton earned her second shutout in a row, recording one save.

The Running Eagles went on to solidify the dominant three-goal road victory in the 70th minute when Justine Kuiper provided Life U. an extra cushion, 3-0.

"Really professional performance from the girls," said Interim Head Coach Matthew Perry. "We controlled the majority of the game and we are really happy with where we are right now. Looking forward to being back at home for Senior Night Thursday."

The Running Eagles will look to close out its regular season on Thursday, hosting Brewton-Parker College at the Lupo Family Field for Senior Day. Kickoff on October 27th is slated for 5 p.m.
