Marietta, Ga. - The women's volleyball team hosted William Carey Saturday dropping in a 3-0 match to the Crusaders. The Running Eagles were able to battle in each set 25-19 and 25-19 before dropping the third set 25-18.
Life U. fell behind early, trailing 7-2 before turning it around in set one and closing the gap to 19-17. The Crusaders then rallied four consecutive points to make it set-point, 24-18. An ensuing attacking error by William Carey provided Life U. one final point, but a final kill downed the Running Eagles 24-19 in the opening set.
The second set again looked promising for Life University as the two teams battled midway through set number two, 14-13. Five consecutive points then fell in favor of the Crusaders as three kills and two aces led the Crusaders to a favorable 19-14 set two lead. The Running Eagles then reeled off an impressive streak to narrow the gap, 22-19, but three WC kills to end the set pushed the Crusaders to a 2-0 set edge.
In the final set, the Running Eagles rallied together to build a 14-11 lead. Big kills by Morgan Furness, Macey Sipmann and Jade Watson propelled Life U. ahead, but the Crusaders were again able to make a run to bring the score back, 15-15. (RV) William Carey then gained and maintained the lead as a final 10-2 run closed the match 25-17.
The Crusaders amassed 47 kills to Life University's 27 in the contest.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
— Amanda Ray led the team with eight digs in the contest while Fayola Louis posted seven kills.
