Men's Soccer Honors Seniors with 5-1 Victory Over Brewton-Parker

MARIETTA, Ga. --- On a night when the 17th-ranked Life University men's soccer team honored its seniors, the honored players responded well, recording a pair of goals and three assists to lead the team to a 5-1 victory over Brewton-Parker at Lupo Family Field Thursday night.

Life U (11-2-1, 5-2-1 SSAC) ended its regular season with a dominant performance, applying immense amounts of pressure on the Brewton-Parker (2-10-2, 2-4-1 SSAC) defense, leading in shots taken by a massive 32-6. The huge disparity in shots taken led to the Running Eagles holding a sizable lead in corner kicks as well at 7-1. The Barons led in saves 6-2, while the teams finished evenly on the refs whistle at 13 fouls each. Brewton-Parker was the only team to receive a card, with two on the day.

It did not take too long for the game's first score to be recorded, Matteo Olivotto serving up a nice pass to senior, Bart Kooistra who finished the goal to give Life U a lead in the 15th minute. The Barons kept playing tough through the early portions of the contest, quickly responding with a goal of their own to knot the game up 1-1 at the 17:28 mark. After a flurry of shots, the Running Eagles capitalized on a Brewton-Parker foul in the 25th minute, Thierry Jules collecting a ball from Callum Jenkins in front of the net and ripping in the go ahead score. Life U kept up their intensity on the attack through the rest of the half, but could not find the back of the net again to take a 2-1 edge into the halftime break.

The second half was all Running Eagles, Kooistra hitting Luciano Diaz for a goal just 10 minutes into the period. Life U nursed their two goal lead for 20 minutes before completely putting the game away, Ramy Katit crossing a ball to Olivotto in front of the net for a quick score and 4-1 lead. Kooistra's second score of the game came in the 81st minute, Katit again sending a fantastic pass forward to set the Running Eagles up for another easy score. After the score, Life U put one more shot on frame, but did not record another goal to spell an end to the regular season with a 5-1 victory.

Head coach Alex Pama was pleased with how the team showed on Senior Night. "Great performance with some high level goals tonight from the lads. Especially happy for the seniors. They played great and I am glad for their contributions to our program." Looking forward to the post season, Pama said, "Now the playoffs await followed by the national tournament, so we continue to prepare and improve."

The victory did not shake up the conference standings, Life U going into the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament as the No. 4 seed which means they play host for the Opening Round. The fist match of the conference tournament will be played Thursday November 3rd at a TBD time against No. 5 seed Blue Mountain College.
