Women's Soccer Sees Tournament Run End with 3-0 Loss to #5 William Carey

MONTGOMERY, ALA. — The Life University women's soccer team saw its SSAC Tournament run end with a 3-0 loss to #5 William Carey University on Saturday in the final.

Playing in Montgomery, the Running Eagles and Crusaders were knotted at 0-0 for the first 25 minutes before William Carey broke through with two consecutive goals in the 25th and 29th.

The Crusaders got the first ball of the contest on frame as Grace Staunton recorded a save in very first minute. The Running Eagles matched that shot forcing a save of their own moments later, with Lilja Olafsdottir responding with the strike.

After that, neither team recorded another save before the opening goal as the Running Eagles went down in the 25th minute after a set piece and finish from the talented SSAC Player of the Year Kauany Sousa. This goal ultimately turned into the game-winning goal.

Minutes later, in the 29th minute, the Crusaders doubled the lead, take a 2-0 scoreline into the half.

Both teams took three corners in the first half, but for Life U., is was to no avail, with the Running Eagles recording only one shot in the opening half of play.

The Running Eagles went on to tally four additional shots in the second half, but the William Carey offense proved too much to handle with girls conceding one final goal in the 86th minute.

In the end, the Running Eagles were outshot 22-5 with the Crusaders receiving their third-straight tournament title. Meanwhile, Life U. earned a runner-up finish in it first year of competition in the SSAC.
