MARIETTA, Ga. — The Life University men's basketball team kept their unbeaten streak alive Thursday night, improving to 5-0 on the season with a SSAC win over the University of Mobile, 90-84.
Mohamed Elgohary poured in 21 points as a starter, while underclassmen Tylan Green and Joshua Ward combined to score 35. The game felt closer than it was for the majority of the contest, as the Running Eagles gained the lead once and Mobile only tied the contest once in the Life U. win.
A lopsided points in the paint favor for the Running Eagles in the first half helped Life University build the lead, outscoring the Rams 28-10 in the paint in the opening half. Elgohary shot 70% from the field in the half, fueling the Running Eagles run with 15 points. Headed to half, the Running Eagles reached the half-century mark to lead 50-33.
Second half play saw the Rams come back to the court re-engaged on the offensive end, but the first-half Running Eagle lead was too much to overcome even despite the 51-point second-half performance from Mobile.
Joshua Ward and Tylan Green both found stride in the second half as the two scored 30 of their combined 35 in the second period of play. The Running Eagles led nearly every positive statistical category in the game, earning more bench points, more points off turnovers, and more points in the paint, all the while taking care of the ball more carefully (15-20).
The Rams tried to make one final push at the end of the game, with a final buzzer-beating three-pointer that cut the Running Eagle to the lowest of the second half, 90-84.
Up next, the Running Eagles will continue SSAC play with Loyola (New-Orleans) visiting the Eagles Nest this upcoming Saturday, November 19th. Tipoff is slated for 2 pm EST.
