Third Quarter Troubles Doom Running Eagles

COCHRAN, Ga. — The Life University women's basketball team fell in a Southern States Athletic Conference contest to Middle Georgia State Tuesday night 57-63.

The Running Eagles earned an early first-half lead, before taking the advantage into halftime, 32-25. The second half of action was not as favorable for the Running Eagles, as a two-point third-quarter saw the team lose their first-half lead before a late push in the fourth came up just short in the narrow loss to the Knights.

Eva Caroline Singlet began the game red-hot for the Running Eagles, scoring seven of Life University's first 15 points in the opening frame. After leaving the first tied at 15-all, the second quarter saw the Knights struggle to maintain their offensive efficiency, converting just 25% from the field, while the Running Eagles scored 17 more points to earn the lead going into halftime.

The third quarter is where the game fell apart for Life University as the team recorded two total points in the period, including an 0-12 field goal drought. The Running Eagles struggled to make both contested and open shots, with even the free-throw line failing to cooperate as the team shot 2-10 from the charity stripe.

On the other side of things, the Knights turned Life University's struggles into points, scoring 20 points to move ahead by eleven heading into the fourth.

The fourth quarter saw a resurgence in the Running Eagle offense, but it was too little too late as the Knights claimed the Southern States win 63-57.

Transfer forward Fapou Semebene scored a team-best 14 points to tally another dominant double-double. Maikya Simmons, Santavia Grant and Sienna Bailey all scored nine each as Eva Caroline Singlet's big first quarter helped the senior reach double-digits with ten points.

Up next, the Running Eagles will face Talladega College this upcoming Saturday in Talladega, Alabama. Tipoff is set for 1 pm.
