MARIETTA, Ga. — The Life University women's volleyball team concluded its regular season Saturday afternoon with a win over the University of Mobile 3-1. The team utilized an all-around team effort in the win, winning the first, third and fourth set.
In the first set, Mobile (21-10, 12-6 SSAC) earned an early 4-0 lead before the Running Eagles (12-11, 9-9 SSAC) got on the board. Life U. then overtook the lead with a 5-0 run fueled by consecutive kills from Madison Lee and Cassidy Lee, 10-9. The two teams traded points until 18-18, when consecutive errors by Mobile turned into Life U. points. A final kill by Fayola Louis extended the Running Eagle lead to 22-19, but again it was two Ram errors that finalized the opening set, 25-21.
The second set started in favor of Mobile with another 4-0 rally to begin the set. A Morgan Furness kill then tallied the Running Eagles its first kill of the set, 8-3, but it was run a from Life U. moments later that pulled the ladies to its closest margin of the set, 14-10. Despite the effort, the set ended in favor of Mobile 25-17, tying the largest margin set win for either team on Saturday.
In the next set, Life University dominated out of the gates, jumping to a 9-3 lead. Madison Lee picked up two assists and a service ace in the run, before registering a kill to extend the Life U. led, 11-6. The Rams closed the lead later in the set with a service ace, 16-15, but the Running Eagles ended the set on a 9-2 run to move the contest to match point.
The final set of the day was contested throughout as both teams battled point for point. A fourteen all set was then broken by a Chloe Teter kill with Life University earning the lead and expanding it to 22-18. An Amanda Ray service ace extended Life U's lead as the Running Eagles flew away 25-22.
In the end, it was a full team effort as Fayola Louis, Lena Pucnik, and Chloe Teter each neared the double digit mark in the 3-1 win. Madison Lee led the team in assists for a second straight match as Amanda Ray served in the libero role with a team-high 19 digs.
Up next, the Running Eagles will travel to Montgomery, Alabama to play in the SSAC Tournament. The fifth seeded women's team will begin postseason play on Thursday, November 10th.
