MARIETTA, Ga. ---- The Life University women's basketball team came up just short Saturday afternoon in a 50-45 loss to (RV) Georgetown College in Mid-South Conference action.
Georgetown (19-9, 12-8) outscored Life U (6-21, 2-17) 9-6 in the first quarter and 15-8 in the second to lead 24-14 at the half. Life U stormed back in the third quarter with a 16-11 run to cut the deficit to five, 35-30. The Running Eagles cut the lead down to two early in the fourth, however both teams finished with 15 points in the final ten minutes as the Tigers clung to a 50-45 win.
Georgetown finished the game 16-54 (29.6%) from the floor and 3-18 (16.7%) from beyond the arc. The Tigers won the game at the free-throw line shooting 15-17 from the charity stripe with 24 points in the paint and 16 points off turnovers. They added 12 fast break points with 14 bench points on 43 rebounds and eight assists. Defense proved to be big for both teams as Georgetown totaled 10 steals with seven blocks.
Life U finished with a program-high seven blocks in the game with 10 steals. The Running Eagles shot 15-53 (28.3%) from the floor, 5-14 (35.7%) from three and 10-12 (83.3%) from the free-throw line. They added 18 points in the paint with nine points off turnovers. Life U totaled 33 rebounds with six assists.
The women's basketball team will return to action on Tuesday, February 15, when they travel to Campbellsville, Ky. to face No. 5 ranked Campbellsville University at 6 PM.
