MARIETTA, Ga. --- Maria Arvizu and
Angie Forbes recorded four goals each as the No. 3 Life University Women's Lacrosse created distance early and never looked back against No. 10 Georgetown College, breezing to a 17-4 victory in Lupo Family Field this evening.
Life U (3-0) stayed perfect on the season, getting a near perfect start as the team recorded four goals over the first five minutes of play to quickly put Georgetown (1-1) on their back foot. The Tigers scored three times before the period was up to close the gap, seeing the teams end the first, Life U leading 5-3. The game's momentum completely shifted towards the Running Eagles in the second quarter, Life U running off six unanswered goals to end the half, helped in large part by a pair of goals from Arvizu and two more from
Alyssa Curto, taking an 11-3 lead into the break.
The halftime break did not slow down Life U's momentum, the team pushing the scoring streak to 10 unanswered as the game entered running clock early in the third quarter. Forbes scored the first goal of the final quarter of play, seeing the Life U streak reach 11 before the Tigers were able to respond. Georgetown scored its only goal outside of the first period to give the game a 16-4 total with 4:06 to play.
Erika Morgan scored the final goal of the game to see the Running Eagles run away for a 17-4 victory.
Arvizu stuffed the stat sheet on the day, not only tying for a game high with four goals, but also pitched in two assists, nine ground balls, and four caused turnovers. Freshman Forbes had herself a night as well, matching Arvizu with four goals of her own. Curto was the only other player to record a hat trick for Life U, while other multiple goal scorers were:
Kelly Beshaw and Morgan. Morgan added two ground balls and three caused turnovers to go with her scores.
Lacy Legaspi and
Annaliese Froese scored the only other goals, both also earning an assist, two ground balls, and a caused turnover.
Reese Cook did a good job coming in and providing relief in goal, recording six saves while in net.
The Running Eagles held strong advantages in most statistical categories, leading shots 38-11, ground balls 35-18, and turnovers caused 25-11.
The women's lacrosse team stays home for their next contest, facing Mid-South Conference South Division foe No. 1 Keiser University Friday at 2 PM.
