Women's Lacrosse Controls Game in 19-2 Home Victory Over (RV) Ottawa

MARIETTA, Ga. --- Brianna Freeman compiled nine total points as the No. 4 Life University women's lacrosse team took control of the pace of the game early and never relented, running away for a 19-2 victory over (RV) Ottawa University Friday afternoon in Lupo Family Field.

Life U (9-2) jumped out to a great start against Ottawa (5-1), scoring eight times in the opening period to take an early, commanding 8-0 lead, finding a great deal of success from free position opportunities. Freeman scored three of her six goals during the period while assisting on another as six different Running Eagles scored. Life U slowed things down in the second quarter, but still maintained their scoring streak, running off three more goals early in the period to extend to an 11-0 lead. Ottawa's lone goal of the half came with 3:19 to go as the teams entered the break, Life U leading with a running clock 11-1.

The third quarter followed a similar script to the second, the Running Eagles posting three scores to start the period before Ottawa answered with a single goal before the 15 minutes drew to a close. Entering the final 15 minutes of play with a 14-2 lead, Life U coasted the rest of the way to victory scoring five more goals as Peyton Sanders and Freeman both chipped in a pair to give the final score of 19-2.

Many Running Eagles had great days, Freeman leading the way offensively with a season-best six goals and three assists. Two other Life U players earned hat tricks, Sanders scoring three times on only four shots, while Maria Arvizu stuffed the stat sheet with three goals, an assist, four ground balls, and three caused turnovers. Olivia Andrews was the only other player to score multiple goals, while Angie Forbes, Nina Sutton, Kelly Beshaw, Lexi Santiago, and Lacy Legaspi each posted one score. Leanne Windon and Erika Morgan had strong days defensively, both earning three caused turnovers, while they had four and two ground balls, respectively. Korenza Heath had a great game in goal, allowing only two goals while picking up four saves.

Life U dominated the stat comparisons, taking 28 total shots to Ottawa's 13, giving up less turnovers at 23-19, and picking up more ground balls at 21-16. Ottawa recorded more saves at 8-4.

The Running Eagles take a week off before playing their penultimate home game against Ave Maria on Saturday, March 26th at 12 PM.
