Women's Lacrosse Starts Road Trip with 19-3 Victory at (RV) Concordia

ANN ARBOR, Mich. --- Senior Maria Arvizu dominated on both sides of the field, collecting seven goals, three assists, seven ground balls, and five caused turnovers as the No. 4 Life University women's lacrosse team started its Michigan road trip in Ann Arbor in good fashion, besting host, (RV) Concordia (Mich.), 19-3 Tuesday afternoon.

After spending most of the day traveling, Life U (11-2) came out of the gates a touch slow at Concordia (4-6), the Cardinals getting on the board in the first 15 seconds of play after taking the opening draw control. That would be the only lead that Concordia would experience, the Running Eagles answering with six goals over the final six minutes of the first, Arvizu and Alyssa Curto both scoring twice to see Life U leave the period with a 6-1 edge. The Running Eagles continued to pour it on in the second quarter, a goal in the final seconds of the half by Peyton Sanders pushing the game into running clock, Life U leading 12-2.

As Life U reached deeper into its rotation in the second half, the team maintained its control of the game. Neither team scored much in the third quarter, the Running Eagles creating a slightly greater deal of separation at 14-3. The Running Eagles scored five unanswered goals in the final period of play, Arvizu contributing three herself, as the game wound down to its conclusion, Life U winning 19-3.

Arvizu had a dominant performance on the road, continuing her season long excellence, while two other Running Eagles recorded hat tricks. Curto was the second leading scorer with four goals on her five total shots while also causing a turnover, and Brianna Freeman posted three scores. Five other Running Eagles got in on the scoring, Nina Sutton, Lacy Legaspi, Annaliese Froese, Nicole Ortiz, and Sanders all contributing a goal. Lexi Santiago and Sutton both provided big days on the defensive side, Santiago grabbing five ground balls and causing three turnovers, while Sutton grabbed four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Reese Cook and Korenza Heath split duties in goal over the game, Cook earning four saves while Heath had two.

Life U kept the pressure up most of the game, outshooting Concordia 36-10 and causing 26 turnovers to the Cardinals 12, while outdoing them in ground balls 32-23. The Running Eagles were also better on the clear, completing 18-for-25 compared to the Cardinals' 9-for-22.

The Running Eagles stay on the road for their next match, facing No. 1 Lawrence Tech Friday, April 1 at 5 PM.
