Women's Lacrosse Honors Seniors With 21-8 Victory Over (RV) Webber International

MARIETTA, Ga. --- The Life University women's lacrosse team sent their senior class out in style, closing the regular season with a resounding 21-8 victory over Mid-south Conference foe (RV) Webber International Thursday afternoon at Lupo Family Field.
 
Life U (14-4, 4-2 MSC) clinched its spot as the second seed in the MSC South Division for next week's Conference Tournament with the runaway victory, but the game started slowly for the Running Eagles only holding a 3-2 lead after 15 minutes played. Life U found its pace in the second quarter Maria Arvizu posting three goals over two different three goal runs to see the Running Eagles on top 9-3 with 7:58 till the half. Webber International (6-10, 1-4 MSC) recorded a pair of scores to end the first half to pull the game closer going into the break, Life U up 9-5.
 
The Running Eagles put the game away in the third quarter, outscoring the Warriors 8-1 to push the score into running clock at 17-6. Nina Sutton compiled all three of her goals on the day during the dominant third quarter, while Nicole Ortiz posted two of her own. Webber International posted the first score of the final period of play, but Life U did not let up, continuing to grow its lead to the final of 21-8, Brianna Freeman leading the scoring effort in the last 15 minutes with a pair.
 
The seniors came through on their day, Arvizu leading the way with another stat sheet filling, dominant effort with five goals, two assists, eight ground balls, four caused turnovers, and a season high 10 draw controls. She was closely followed by fellow senior, Freeman, posting a three goal, three assist effort. Newcomer, Sutton, matched a season best with three goals to go with her two ground balls and caused turnovers. Two other seniors recorded multi-goal games, Lacy Legaspi coming through with two goals to go with three assists, while Annaliese Froese's two goals paired well with her two ground balls and four caused turnovers. Other multi-goal games were earned by Ortiz and Angie Forbes. Two other seniors rounded out the scoring, Kelly Beshaw's goal going with five ground balls and Erika Morgan's going with two ground balls and caused turnovers. Leanne Windon acted as a constant nuisance to Webber defensively, earning eight ground balls and a game high nine caused turnovers.
 
Life U maintained a healthy lead in most statistics, taking a massive 48 shots to the Warrior's 19, while also holding a strong edge in ground balls, 34-15; caused turnovers, 28-11; and draw controls, 21-11. The Running Eagles made things hard for Webber on the clear, only allowing 16-for-30. The Warrior's goalkeeper put in a valiant effort, earning 20 saves over the contest to lead the category, 20-7.
 
With the conclusion of today's contest comes the end of the regular season, the Running Eagles looking to the Mid-South Conference Tournament that will be played in Williamsburg, Ky. next. Life U will enter as the No. 2 seed in the South Division, their first contest being Thursday, April 21.
