WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. --- The Life University women's lacrosse team tied things up midway through the third quarter, but was unable to hold on, losing on the road to Mid-South Conference foe and fifth-ranked Keiser Friday afternoon 19-14.
Life U (12-4, 2-2 MSC) started the game slowly as Keiser (10-3, 4-0 MSC) tallied two goals in a 30 second span before
Nicole Ortiz was able to secure the first Running Eagles score of the game. Three straight scores from the Seahawks moved the lead to 5-1, but scores from
Kelly Beshaw and
Nina Sutton got the offense clocking for Life U again to lessen the deficit to 5-3. Keiser continued scoring at a higher clip than the Running Eagles into the second quarter, holding a 10-5 lead with 6:28 to play in the half.
Brianna Freeman and
Angie Forbes posted a pair of goals late in the second saw Life U exit the first 30 minutes of play trailing 11-7.
The Running Eagles looked to finally have things clicking coming out of the break as four straight scores tied the game at 11-11 with 10:56 left in the third. Another Keiser score was answered by
Lacy Legaspi to see the game again tied with 7:15 until the fourth, but thhe Seahawks went on a back-breaking four goal run to take a commanding 16-12 lead with just over 10 minutes remaining in the game. Life U made one final push, Freeman and Ortiz scoring goals to again pull within two goals at 16-14 with 8:47 to play. The Running Eagles did not find the back of the net again, suffering a 19-14 loss.
Freeman took part in the most scores for Life U, recording three goals and three assists on her seven total shots. Four different Running Eagles posted two-score games, Ortiz and Legaspi both having two goals and an assist, while Sutton and Forbes had a caused turnover and ground ball to go with their scores.
Maria Arvizu earned a game high four assists to go with her goal, ground ball, and two caused turnovers.
The stats went against Life U for the most part, Keiser holding decent leads in both shots, 35-24, and ground balls, 20-15. The largest stat disparity came in draw controls where the Seahawks took 26-10 edge. Life U led caused turnovers, 16-15, and saves, 11-7.
The Running Eagles play on the road again tomorrow, facing Ave Maria in a conference noon game.
