Men's Soccer Opens Season with Resounding 3-1 Victory at SCAD

SAVANNAH, Ga. --- The 2022-23 Life U athletics' season officially started today, the men's soccer program opening the season with a 3-1 victory at SCAD Friday afternoon.

Life U's (1-0) backline dominated the day, providing extremely limited opportunities for SCAD (0-1) on the attack, while the Running Eagles took advantage of their chances to keep pressure on SCAD's defense. The Bees were held to limited opportunities which reflected in the first half box, Life U outshooting them in the period 10-1 with an edge of 7-0 for shots on goal. Despite the lopsided stat line, a Matteo Olivotto goal off an assist from Danny DeLorijn stood as the only score of the first half.

The close of the first 45 minutes and the start of the second half were far apart as inclement weather pushed the game into a sizable delay, but it did little to change the course of the game as Life U continued controlling the game's tempo. DeLorijn slipped in a goal of his own early in the second half, recording a goal in the 46th minute off a Dave Star pass. The Bees finally broke through for a goal five minutes later, but were unable to threaten again as a Luciano Diaz goal in the 75th minute put the game out of reach at, 3-1.

Head Coach Alex Pama was pleased with the showing put on by his team. "Proud of the lads. They executed the game plan beautifully the first 30-35 minutes or so, and it was a joy to watch them play. The 1-0 was a poor reflection of the actual chances we created in front of goal. We didn't reward ourselves enough. However, any time winning on the road with such a long lighting delay, is a good sign of things to come." He finished stating, "This team is hungry to get themselves back to the national soccer scene."

Life U dominated the offensive statistics in the game as the team's talented defenders took away SCAD's chances with the ball. Life U led in shots 21-5 and shots on goal 15-2, while also holding a 9-1 edge in corner kicks. The Running Eagles were penalized more, leading the Bee's in fouls 11-6, and yellow cards, 4-0. SCAD's goalkeeper put in a Herculean effort to try and keep his team in the game, seeing his team lead in saves 12-2.

Life U stays on the road for their next contest, traveling to former conference foe, (RV) Cumberland, August 23 for a 3:30 PM showdown.
