MARIETTA, Ga. --- In the Life University women's volleyball team's second Southern States Athletic Conference game of the year, the team relied on an efficient attack to down Middle Georgia State 3-0 in the Upper Gym Tuesday night.
Â
Life U (5-2, 2-0 SSAC) played one of their more efficient games of the season on the attack tonight, holding a team percentage on .295 to go with 43 total kills, while Middle Georgia State (1-5, 0-3 SSAC) struggled in that area only hitting .066 to go with 21 total kills. The Running Eagles also held decided advantages in aces 10-5, blocks 6-2, and digs 51-33.
Â
The teams played things closely over the opening of the first set, the teams trading runs. A 4-0 stretch by the Running Eagles capped off by a
Madison Evans kill from
Kennedy Neal saw Life U take a lead, 12-9, that they would not relinquish. Momentum continued mounting on the Life U side of the net, an 8-1 run, forcing a Middle Ga timeout after a
Morgan Furness kill made it 20-11. A serving error by the Knights ended the set in Running Eagles' favor, 25-12.
Â
After a solid, 2-0 start to the second set, MGA pulled momentum on their side taking an early 7-3 lead in large part due to unforced mistakes by the Running Eagles. A massive block by K. Neal and Furness saw Life U closed the gap a little, trailing 14-10 midway through the second. A late push by the Running Eagles, going on a 8-3 run, saw the team finally take the lead 21-20 after a Knights' attack error. Life U closed out the set on a
Madison Evans, Furness combo block, 25-23, to take a 2-0 set advantage.
Â
Again, the third set played out closely early, the teams exchanging the lead multiple times as neither could make any headway over the opening half of the set. A 5-0 run, ending with a powerful
Emilee Brown kill finally saw the Running Eagles start to take control up 14-10. Life U maintained their control over the set, back-to-back aces by
Liliann Cox setting up match point 24-18. The set and match came to a close a couple volleys later, 25-19, after a MGA attack error.
The Running Eagles hit the road for their next two conference games, facing (RV) Loyola Univ. (La.) first Friday night at 6 PM.
