BABSON PARK, Fla. --- Thora Hreggvidsdottir had her second multi-goal game in a row, seeing the Life University women's soccer team tied with Webber International late on the road, but a Warrior goal in the final minute of the game saw the Running Eagles suffer a tough, 4-3 loss Monday afternoon.
Life U (1-3-1) found themselves with more scoring opportunities over the course of the game, outshooting Webber International (5-0-0) 16-8, but trailed when it came to shots on goals 6-5. Corner kicks and saves were split evenly, the teams tying at two and three corners each. In such a tightly contested game, things played out rather chippy Life U leading in fouls 21-18, while the Warriors were called on more cards at 5-3.
For such a high scoring game, it was not until rather late in the first half that the first points of the game were scored.
Dana Billington scored her first goal of the season 32:48 into the half to take a 1-0 lead, but the lead did not last, a Webber International score in the final five minutes of the half sending the teams into the break tied 1-1.
It looked like the second half was also going to play out in a slow manner, but 15 minutes in a scoring frenzy erupted. It started in the 60th minute with a Hreggvidsdottir goal that was assisted by Lilja Olafsdottir to take back the lead 2-1. Not even a minute later after a Life U foul in the box, a Warrior penalty kick again saw the game tied. Two minutes later another goal by Webber International, saw them take their first lead of the contest, 3-2. The lead would not last as, again, less than a minute later for the Running Eagles Hreggvidsdottir even things up with a solo score. Tied 3-3, the teams went back-and-forth the remainder of the game looking to set up for a tie, but a goal in the last minute by the Warriors saw the game in a 4-3 loss.
The Running Eagles stay in Florida for their next game, facing Warner University Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 7 PM.
