Men's Soccer Starts Conference Season with 2-0 Victory Over Middle Georgia State

COCHRAN, Ga. --- The No. 20 Life University men's soccer team hit the road for their first Southern States Athletic Conference game, relying on a pair of second half goals to come away with the victory, 2-0, at Middle Georgia State Saturday afternoon.

Life U (7-0-0, 1-0 SSAC) stays perfect on the season, while Middle Georgia (0-8-0, 0-1 SSAC) continues to search for their first win of 2022. The Running Eagles continued their trend from previous games, outshooting their opposition by a fair margin, 19-5, while alsotaking a big 6-0 edge in corner kicks. MGA received a solid game from their goalkeeper, taking a 7-2 edge in saves. It was a rather cleanly played game, Life U on the good side of the refs whistle in fouls 6-4, while the teams tied at two for cards.

The first half saw opened with Luka Zakarija earning a pair of quick saves on the only shots the Knights would put on frame the entire game. Life U had three good scoring opportunities down the stretch, but saves by MGA saw the teams enter the halftime break tied 0-0.

It did not take long after the start of the second half for the Running Eagles to get on the board, Thierry Jules posting his first score of the season to take a 1-0 lead in the 50th minute. Just 10 minutes later, Life U created some more breathing room for themselves, Danny DeLorijn netting a goal of his own to push the lead to 2-0. The Life U defense continued their excellent, lock-down play over the rest of the contest, only allowing one more shot by the Knights to bring home the 2-0 victory.

Head coach Alex Pama was pleased with the team's performance despite injuries. "We knew it was going to be a difficult match in hard circumstances. We had some injuries, but the guys who replaced them did excellent. A sign of a good strong team." Pama finished looking forward to next weekend, "This upcoming weekend we play two title rivals at home so we need all the support we can get from our fans."

The Running Eagles come home for their next contest, matching up with No. 17 William Carey on Friday, September 30 at 7:30 PM.
