Women's Soccer /
COCHRAN, Ga. --- A last second goal by the home team saw the Life University women's soccer team record a 1-1 tie to start Southern States Athletic Conference play this afternoon against (RV) Middle Georgia State.

Life U (2-3-2, 0-0-1 SSAC) relied on excellent play in goal from Grace Staunton to pull off the tie, earning eight saves to only one for the Middle Georgia (3-4-2, 0-0-1 SSAC). The Knights controlled the momentum offensively the majority of the game, leading 14-3 in shots and 5-1 in corners.

The Running Eagles did not find many opportunities to press the attack in the first half, only taking a pair of shots, while the Knights compiled 10. Life U had a chance to score in the 41st minute, Lilja Olafsdottir putting a free kick on goal, but the MGA goalkeeper made a save to see the teams exit the first half tied 0-0.

The second half played out in a similar manner to the first, Life U having a hard time to find opportunities to score. It was not until the 68th minute that Thora Hreggvidsdottir took the only Life U shot in the half, but she made it count recording a goal off a penalty kick. The Running Eagles defense clamped down on MGA after the score, limiting their scoring chances as they nursed a 1-0 lead. With the game coming to a close and it looking like the Running Eagles were about to pull off the 1-0 victory, the Knights got off a kick in the final minute to tie the game 1-1. Neither team got a shot off in the final 30 seconds, to see the game end in a tie.

The Running Eagles are home next weekend, facing No. 6 William Carey on Friday at 5 PM.
