MARIETTA, Ga. --- The Life University women's soccer season started Saturday night, the team hosting (RV) St. Thomas and keeping the game close until fading in the second half for a 3-1 loss.
Life U (0-1) suffered the loss, but held things rather close in regard to the final stats. St. Thomas (4-1-0) edged out the Running Eagles in shots taken 13-12 and corner kicks 6-2. Life U led in saves at 3-1 and found themselves on the receiving end of the refs whistle more, leading in fouls 13-8.
The Running Eagles found good offensive opportunities in the opening minutes, before the Bobcats put extended pressure on the Life U defense. Running Eagle defenders kept things in front of them until St. Thomas got through in the 24th minute to take a 1-0 lead. After the goal, Life U only allowed one more shot to the Bobcats to go into the break down 1-0.
After early shots by Agnes Stefansdottir to start the second half, the Running Eagle defense allowed a pair of goals in quick succession to go down 3-0. In the final minute of play, the Running Eagles finally broke through for a score, freshman Lilja Olafsdottir taking a pass from
Anakah Madril and netting it to give the final score of 3-1.
The Running Eagles stay home for their next game, facing (RV) Georgia Gwinnett Thursday, September 8th at 7 PM.
