LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. --- Wilfried Tchoupa Kamden nets a pair of goals as the Life University men's soccer team earns yet another victory away from home, besting Point Uni. 4-1 Monday afternoon on the campus of Georgia Gwinnett.
Life U (5-0) continues its excellent start to the season, putting immense pressure on Point (0-3-1) on both sides of the field. The Running Eagles pressed the advantage on the attack, leading the Skyhawks in shots taken 21-3 and corner kicks 9-2. Despite the heavily skewed stats, Point managed to stay in the game until more than midway through the game due to the team leading in saves 9-2. The game played out closely in how the refs called things, Life U being called on more fouls at 16-14, while they tied in cards received at 4-4.
The game opened with Life U pushing the advantage early, but it was the Skyhawks that scored on what was their first shot of the game to take a 1-0 lead ini the 20th minute. In the 36th minute Kamden scored his first goal of the game off a penalty kick to even the game at 1-1. Kamden recorded his second goal--the eventual game-winner--just four minutes into the second half, collecting a rebound from a
Danny DeLorijn that he shot in to take a 2-1 lead. Bart Kooista continued his early season excellence, netting a goal of his own off a Jamie Gonzalez assist to push the lead to 3-1 with less than 14 minutes to go in the game. For the final score of the game, senior
Luciano Diaz took a cross pass from
Manuel Carrillo and shot it pass the goal keeper in the final minute of play to give the final score of 4-1.
Coach Pama loved what his team had to show him on the night. "Solid win after a difficult first half in hot and humid circumstances. Our offense turned it up a notch in the second half and we could have scored more, but we will take the 4-1 win and our 5-0-0 record into our first home game Friday under the lights." Pama concluded, saying, "The boys are excited to finally play at home after five road contests."
The Running Eagles play their first home contest of the season next, facing NCAA DIII Birmingham-Southern Friday at 7 PM.
