MARIETTA, Ga. — The Life University men's basketball team got back on track Saturday afternoon, besting the Barons from Brewton-Parker 66-58, avoiding a three-game skid.
Despite the win, the Running Eagles (13-4, 6-4 SSAC) trailed at the half, before utilizing a stellar second-half performance to route the Barons.
The second half dominance was fueled by a combination of Running Eagles, with Nathan Presnell scoring all eleven of his points in the final 20 minutes of play. Additionally, Joshua Ward and Srdjan Popovich scored 14 of their 22 combined points in the second half.
Despite the second half domination from the Running Eagles, the Barons jumped out to a six-point advantage with back-to-back scores. The Running Eagles responded with two points from the charity stripe and a 3-ptr. to pull back within a single point before the Barons would once again gain a four-point edge with 15:49 on the clock. BPC then moved to a six-point advantage at the 11:51 mark, but the Running Eagles knocked down a trey fifty seconds later to stay in the game.
The visitors would then hold a 48-41 lead with just over nine minutes left to play in the game before the Running Eagles surged to a 16-2 run to pull out to a 57-50 lead with four and a half minutes remaining.
The Running Eagles were then able to narrowly outscore BPC 9-8 in the final minutes of the game, holding on and securing the 66-58 win.
Up next, the Running Eagles will travel to Montgomery this upcoming Thursday in search of the sweep over Faulkner. Tipoff in Alabama is set for 8:30 PM.
