Men's Basketball Cruises to Win over MGA

MARIETTA, GA. - The Life University men's basketball team cruised to a victory Tuesday night in the Eagles' Nest, claiming an 80-70 win over the Knights from Middle Georgia. With the win, the Running Eagles' are now tied for fifth in the conference tied with Dalton State, both sitting at 7-5.

After Initially trailing 2-0 to begin the game, the Running Eagles (14-5, 7-5 SSAC) quickly took a lead and soared ahead with an incredible 19-0 run.

Leading 19-2 with just seven minutes played, Devin Story and Mohamed Elgohary were explosive throughout the half, scoring 21 of Life University's 48 points. The Running Eagles held a 48-28 lead at the break, but in the second half, they left no question. 

Despite a strong effort by to the Knights to try and fight back into the contest,  the Running Eagles were able to maintain a 20 point lead for the majority of the second half. 

Leading by as many as 21 with less than five minutes to play, the Knights closed the game on a 13-4 run to cut the lead to 10. In the end, it was too little too late as the Running Eagles picked up the important conference win, 80-70. 

Devin Story continued his hot streak with 19 points for Life U. as he has now posted double figures in four of his last six games. 

Mohamed Elgohary got back to form in the contest, reaching double-digits while also grabbing 10 rebounds to notch his fourth double-double in SSAC play. Joshua Ward contributed 11 points and five assists in the dominant win.

Up next, Life University heads to Dalton State on Thursday for an important SSAC showdown. Tipoff in Dalton, Georgia is set for 7:30 p.m.

TURNING POINT:

--A 19-0 run shortly into the game gave Life U. a 19-2 lead with 12:57 remaining in the first half. 

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:

— Four Running Eagles contributed double-digit scoring performances with Tylan Green scoring 11 off the bench. 

--This marked Story's second straight game with 18 or more points.

NEWS AND NOTES:

—Life U. remains unbeaten against Middle Georgia, sitting at 2-0 all-time.
