MARIETTA, Ga. --- The Life University men's volleyball team fell to the Tigers from Campbellsville Saturday afternoon, narrowly losing sets one and two before gaining traction with a win in set three. The momentum was short-lived with the Running Eagles eventually falling in four sets, 3-1.
Through two incredibly entertaining and close opening sets, the Running Eagles (1-1) found themselves down 2-0 before confirming a win in set three.
The opening set was a narrow defeat, 26-24, followed by a just as entertaining 32-30 narrow loss. In both sets, the Running Eagles were ahead, holding the chance to win 25-24 in the first set before holding a lead at 25-24 and 26-25 in the 32-30 loss in set two.
Despite the lapses in the opening two sets, the Running Eagles eventually found their footing in set three, dominating the Tigers 25-14 for the largest set win of the day.
In that set, the Running Eagles fell behind 2-0 before knotting the frame at two each. The teams then remained tied at four-all before Life U. scored three more points to take a 7-4 lead. After gaining the lead, they never looked back.
With a favorable 16-11 advantage, the Running Eagles then strung a 9-3 run together to win the set. The impressive run was highlighted by three service aces with Diego Martinez firing two.
After the set three win, the Running Eagles eventually ran out of gas as the Tigers went on to take the fourth and final set, 3-1.
Overall, Ryan Ollie led the attack with ten kills while David Barcan and Diego Perez both contributed eight. Nikolas Carrascal excelled with a team-high 20 assists.
The Running Eagles will travel to the Sunshine State next, facing Webber and Warner next weekend with Webber International University hosting Life U. on Friday at 7 PM.
