MARIETTA, GA — The Life University men's basketball team got back in the win column on Saturday afternoon, winning their second-to-final home game of the season against Talladega College 70-58.
In the first half, the two teams failed to create any separation with four total lead changes. The Running Eagles fell behind in the first possession of the contest, initially going down 3-0 before Shomik Shehjahan tallied the opening score with a 3-ptr., tying the contest. A pair of successful free throws moments later from Joshua Ward gave Life U. Its first lead of the ballgame 5-3, but the half was just beginning as the Tornadoes would reverse the game with a 9-7 lead.
Back to back assisted layups by Joshua Ward and Nathan Presnell then gave the Running Eagles another lead, 9-7, but it would then get tied at 9-9 and 11-11 before Life U. finally broke free. Heading to the break the Running Eagles held a favorable 36-32 lead.
In the final 20 minutes of play, the Running Eagles held the lead for the entire duration, building the lead to 15 points on three separate occasions. To open the half the Running Eagles open on a 10-3 run, extending the margin to double-digits after a Dara Olanade layup, 46-35. The Tornadoes would continue to fight to get back into the contest, trimming the lead down to seven at the 12-minute mark.
The push was short-lived for the visitors as the Running Eagles grew the margin up to the game's biggest lead with just at a minute to play, 70-54.
Nathan Presnell finished the night with a team-high 17 points off the bench, shooting a perfect 8-8 from the field including 1-2 from the charity stripe. Joshua Ward finished the night with 12 points six rebounds and six assists.
Up next, the Running Eagles will compete in an SSAC contest this upcoming Thursday at William Carey. Tipoff in Hattiesburg, Mississippi is set for 8:30 PM EST.
