MARIETTA — The Life University men's basketball team continued their solid start to the season, besting the new college of Florida, 82-63 to conclude the Kenwood Memorial classic in the Eagles' Nest.
Led in scoring by Dora Olonade, the Running Eagles dominated from the top, jumping ahead to a 7-0 scoreline before the Banyans finally broke through. The Running Eagles were efficient throughout the first half, getting NCF in foul trouble early by attacking the basket and earning layups and kick and drives. The Running Eagles shot 44% in the first half from behind the arc, and 57% from the field
The newly established New College of Florida, provided a good fight, but their experience was apparent as the Banyans struggled to keep up. Headed to the break, the Running Eagles led 43-30.
The second half was again a dominant performance from the Running Eagles, never allowing the score to get closer than seven and growing the lead to an outstanding 18 point margin. A rotation of Life University players closed out the contest, as Dara Olonade's impact was the most obvious. The junior forward led the team in scoring with 23 while also shooting an impressive 9 of 10 from the field, and grabbing a game-high 16 boards. Additional supporters alongside Olonade included; Nathan Presnell with 18, Elias Ramierz with 15, and Shomik Shahjahan with nine points and seven assists.
Up Next, the Running Eagles, traveling to Truett-McConnell next weekend to face the Bears on Saturday, November 4, in Cleveland, Ga.
