MARIETTA, Ga. — The Life University men's basketball team continued its hot start to the season Wednesday night, opening SSAC play with a win over Point University.
Never trailing in the contest, the Running Eagles jumped ahead to a 14-0 lead to start the contest. Dara Olonade and Nathan Presnell both imposed their will inside from the beginning, scoring six and four points, respectively, in the quick run to start the game. After the explosion of offense from Life U, Point slowly clawed back into the contest, cutting a once 14-point lead down to three, 24-21, with seven minutes to play in the half.
The Running Eagles responded with a 7-0 run, capped by a captivating left-handed euro-step finish from Joshua Ward to push the lead back up to ten, 31-21. At the half, Life U held an advantage 42-31.
In the second half, the Running Eagles controlled and maintained their lead, the closest the Skyhawks got was six, but each time the visitors provided Life U a scare, the Running Eagles had an answer.
In the end, Joshua Ward led all scorers in the contest with 21. Devin Story and Dara Olonade both poured in solid contributions (17 and 16) as Olonade turning in an all-around solid performance posting a double-double in the conference opener.
