DALTON, Ga. — The Life University men's soccer team saw their 2023 campaign come to end Thursday night, falling to the #2 Roadrunners from Dalton State 4-0 after going down to ten men in the 36th minute.
The match began with Branko Kanacki guarding the net for Life, while Michael Barrueta stood as the goalkeeper for Dalton State. The game saw its first goal in the fifth minute, 1-0.
Throughout the period, both teams had their fair share of fouls, corner kicks, and shots, as the Running Eagles piled on six shots while DS only recorded five in the opening 45. Life did face a setback in the first half when Nipho Methula was shown a red card at the 35th minute.
In the second half, Dalton State held on to their 1-0 lead as the Running Eagles packed the back. Despite the disadvantage, the Running Eagles created strong opportunities to tie the match. The Running Eagles again found two more corner kicks and a strong counter-attacking presence kept Dalton State engaged as both teams played to their strength until the Roadrunners finally broke through to score in the 81st minute. After capitalizing on the chance, the Roadrunners went on to extend their lead to 4-0 as Life sent numbers forward in search for desperation goals.
In the end, the Running Eagles were handed two red cards and three yellow card as the match approached its conclusion. Up next, Dalton State moves to the SSAC Semis while Life's 2023 season comes to an end without an NAIA Tournament appearance auto-bid.
