Men's Basketball Extends SSAC Win Streak to Four

MARIETTA, Ga. — The Life University men's basketball team continued their hot start to the 2023-24 season Saturday afternoon, downing the Barons from Brewton-Parker 100-87.

Leading the charge was transfer sharpshooter Elias Ramirez who helped keep the Running Eagles in the game in the first half shooting an impressive 4-6 from behind the arc to lead all scorers with 15 at halftime.

Despite the success from Ramirez, the Running Eagles struggled to keep up early as BPC jumped out of the gates with a quick 8-1 lead to begin the game. Ramirez's first three pointer brought the scoreline to 8-4, but it wasn't until just under ten minutes into the contest when the Running Eagles were able to finally tie the contest at 18 apiece. A BPC 3-ptr. Was then answered by Ramirez before the Running Eagles finale earned their first lead of the contest 24-21 after a Srdjan Popovich 3-ptr. The two teams battled as the teams traded the lead a total of three times before the Running Eagles carried a 47-41 lead into halfitme.

In the second half the Running Eagles grew their lead as sophomore Joshua Ward and transfer Jaylen Broyles continued the offense for Life U. Ward scored 16 points in the second half alone while Broyles turned in an efficient eight point half to total 21 on 7-8 from the field. The Running Eagles also took better care of possession, only turning the ball three times in the half.

Up next, the men's team travels to face the Firehawks from UT Southern in another SSAC contest this upcoming Thursday. Tipoff in Pulaski, Tenn. is set for 7:30 pm.
