NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Life University men's basketball team concluded their regular season on the road on Saturday, traveling to another Southern States Athletic Conference matchup against Loyola. After carrying a lead to halftime, the Running Eagles eventually fell to the Wolfpack 83-76.
With the loss, the Running Eagles will now face Brewton-Parker on Wednesday for the opening leg of the SSAC postseason tournament.
To begin the game, the Running Eagles had a lead in the first half, and grew the lead to double-digits by the six minute mark in the opening 20 minutes. The Running Eagles capitalized on Loyola misses and Wolfpack turnovers, turning 14 turnovers into 14 points. The Running Eagles were led in the first half by Tylan Grenn, who scored 18 points in the contest, but 16 in the first frame. The Wolfpack saw four player reach double digits, with three scorers from the bench scoring more than ten. In fact, the team's reserves scored 60 of the team's 83 points.
After a solid first half defensively, Life U went to halftime with a 37-32 lead. The second half was a different story with the Wolpack scoring 51 points.
Joshua Ward had a strong second half, scoring 20 of his 26 points in the second period shooting a solid 7-14, including 11-14 from the charity stripe.
An 11-2 by the Wolfpack saw the top-seeded SSAC team pull away, 59-50. After that, the Running Eagles were able to bring the score back to within a single possession, but never grabbed the lead, falling 83-76.
In the end, the Running Eagles came up short in the second half. Joshua Ward led the team with 26 points while Tylan Green contributed a 18 points on 8-9 shooting. Overall the team shot decent from the field (54%) and an efficient 18-21 from the line, but 22 turnovers turned into 21 Loyola points in the 83-76 loss.
