Women's Basketball Sees Tournament Run End with Loss to #9 Loyola

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Life University women's basketball team's 2022–23 season came to an end Thursday afternoon, falling to the Wolfpack from Loyola New Orleans. The Running Eagles fell 58-42 to the top seeded Wolfpack, concluding this season's campaign.

Led by seniors Eva Caroline Singleton and Fapou Semebene, the Running Eagles ran out of gas in the second half as the nationally ranked Wolfpack prove too much to handle in the conference quarterfinals.

Despite the unfavorable result, the Running Eagles had a lead in the first half, carrying a 14-13 lead into the second quarter. In the second, the Wolfpack's offense came alive as 9-2 run triggered by two Life U turnovers brought the game to 26-18. After that, the Running Eagles failed to find a response, trailing at halftime 33-23.

Much like the second quarter, the third quarter again fell in favor of Loyola as the Running Eagles had no answer for the impressive Loyola defense. Allowing just nine points in the second quarter, the Wolfpack's active hands forced four turnovers while also limiting the Running Eagle offense to a total of five points.

After shooting 2-18 in the third quarter, the Running Eagles turned it around to win the final quarter of play 14-11, but it was too little too late as the #9 Wolfpack held on for the win, moving on to the conference semifinal.

Overall, Life University shot 25% from the field and 18% from long range. On the other side of the court, Loyola only shot 29% but hit 40% of their shots from downtown. Points off turnovers heavily favored the Wolfpack as they outscored the Running Eagles 17-3 in the important category.

Without an an at-large bid to the NAIA tournament, the Running Eagles' 2022–23 season comes to an end.
