Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Nick Pope

Men’s Soccer Escapes Home Opener with Scoreless Draw

MARIETTA, Ga. – The Life University men's soccer team survived a home-opening scoreless draw against Reinhardt Wednesday evening, sending 19 shots towards frame but were unable to find the net to pick up their first tie of the season.

After two low-scoring affairs last weekend in West Palm, the Running Eagles (2-0-1) battled in their third straight uber competitive contest.

Limiting the Eagles' offense in the first half to zero shots, the Running Eagles piled on eleven before ending the game with a lopsided 19-6 shot advantage.

Reinhardt kept the game scoreless heading into the break as starting goalkeeper Elijah Clark picked up four saves in the first half alone.

The Eagles continued to hold off Life U throughout the second half, despite struggling to mount any offensive attack.

Head coach Alex Pama shared his thoughts on the contest, stating, "Disappointed with the lack of scoring today but satisfied with the effort given. Third shutout in a row and at times very unlucky in front of the goal. It's difficult to break a team open that sits in, but as mentioned you need a little luck going your way in the chances we did get. Compliments to Reinhardt for leaving everything on the field tonight. Now we get ready for another good non-conference opponent, Cumberlands. The support was great tonight so hopefully Friday we can count on the fans again. Some injured players are on their way back so a lot to look forward to."

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:

- Branko Kanacki excelled once again in goal, making two saves, and earning his third straight clean sheet.

UP NEXT:

- The Running Eagles remain at home to take on the University of the Cumberlands this Friday, September 1st at 7 p.m.
