MARIETTA, Ga. – The Life University men's soccer team tabbed a goal in both halves Sunday afternoon, besting Brewton Parker to remain undefeated in SSAC sports play at Lupo Family Field.
The offensive struggles continued for Life U as they piled on eight shots in the first half but were held at bay until early in the second half. After the intermission, the Running Eagles scored from a service in the box from Matteo Olivotto that was settled by Nipho Methula for a first-time finish from just above the penalty spot by Luka Andrijic, 1-0.
Much of the second half continued to play out like the first, with the Running Eagles continuing to mount opportunities forcing saves and deflections en route to six BPC saves in the contest and ten Life U corners. Despite struggling to score, Life's defensive tactics were nearly perfect, holding the Barons to just four shots total with only one shot forcing a save from Branko Kanacki.
Goal number two came in the 83rd minute as a pass from Loek Vergouwe found Oliver Beck in front of the net, netting his first goal of the season, 2-0.
The Running Eagles dominated the contest entirely, rotating 19 players as no field player played the entire game.
The win keeps the Running Eagles on track for conference playoffs with another tough week upcoming. Head coach Alex Pama shared his thoughts postgame, "Another strong performance from ours guys. We remain undefeated in conference play and earn another shut out. We will have to do better on the ball and convert the many chances into goals. This week we get one back off suspension and we have an injured senior forward returning, giving us more options going forward and in terms of style of play. I am glad we could rest some players today for this week's tough matchups versus two very good teams."
Up next, the Running Eagles remain in conference play, hosting a pair of SSAC matchups this week against Faulkner and Thomas. Kickoff against the Eagles is set for 7:30 pm at Lupo Family Field.
