Running Eagles Stunned by RV Faulkner

MARIETTA, Ga. --- The Life University men's soccer team lost its first SSAC contest of the year Thursday night, falling to (RV) Faulkner after keeping the game close before fading in the second half for a 4-1 loss.

Life U (4-2-2) suffered the loss, but held things rather close in regard to the final stats. Faulkner (9-0-1) edged out the Running Eagles in shots taken 16-9 and corner kicks 3-1. Neither team led in saves at three each,  but the Running Eagles found themselves on the receiving end of the refs whistle more, leading in fouls 15-9.

The Running Eagles struggled to find good offensive opportunities in the opening minutes as the Eagles jumped immediately out the gates with increased pressure firing five shots in the first ten minutes. The Running Eagle did keep Faulkner at bay until 18th minute when Faulkner rifled a bottom corner shot of the post and in the net to take a 1-0 lead. After the goal, Life U only allowed one more shot in the first half creating three more opportunities before going into the break down 1-0.

Instantly in the second half the Running Eagles hit the pitch with rejuvenation, leveling the contest in the 55th minute as Matteo Olivotto got on the end of a Luciano Diaz cross to knot the match at 1-1.

The Running Eagles then held momentum over the next ten minutes, but as more chances for Life U came up empty the Eagles turned a counter-attack into a goal in the 68th minute. After that, Life U again got caught out with two more times falling to the Eagles 4-1.

Up next, the men's team stays at home for their next game, facing (RV) Thomas University on Saturday, September 30th at 4 PM.
