MARIETTA, Ga. — The Life University men's basketball fell in a tough matchup against #16 Mobile Wednesday night, falling to the Rams 89-83 after getting behind in the first half and falling short of a comeback in the second.
Out of the gates, the Running Eagles opened the contest with a three as Elias Ramirez converted on the first possession of the game. After that, the Rams took no time making their presence in the paint known, drawing a foul and heading to the free throw line, foreshadowing much of the evening.
The teams remained close with 14 minutes to go in the first half until the Rams strung an 11-0 run together to get a 19-10 lead. The six-minute scoreless run for Life U ultimately came to an end with nine minutes left in the half as Devin Story nailed a three. Mobile refused to make it easy for the Running Eagles though, extending the lead to as many as 15 before ultimately carrying a 46-33 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Running Eagle began with a run to cut the lead to just two, 50-48, by the 15 minute mark. Life U eventually claimed the lead after a Nathan Presnell layup, assisted by Dara Olonade. The lead was short lived as Mobile instantly recovered and went back ahead and never trailed again, winning the contest 89-83.
Overall, the Running Eagles were unable to overcome a staggering free throw discrepency, shooting 13-15 from the line compared to Mobile's 25-30.
Up next, the Running Eagles remain at home hosting Stillman for another SSAC contest in the Eagles' Nest. Tipoff is set for 2 pm est.
