BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. - The Life U women's basketball team was unable to overcome SSAC opponent Blue Mountain in a 65-57 loss on Saturday afternoon on the road.
The Toppers took control of the beginning of the contest with a 21-16 advantage in the first quarter and held off Life U throughout the fourth quarter to take the win.
The loss marks Life U's fifth of the season after just going on a four-game winning streak.
Despite the loss, guard Maeisha Teasley continued her dominant start inside the arc, contributing 13 points and five rebounds. Fellow Junior Brionna Sims followed with 12 points and added three rebounds. Maikya Simmons and Analeza Edore both scored seven points with Simmons grabbing seven boards. .
The Running Eagles fought back from a ten-point deficit in the first quarter to only trail by five 21-16 going into the second.
Life U used a 10-5 run in the back end of the second quarter to bring the score to 33-all going into the break.
Tied at the break, the Running Eagles played the Toppers tough in the third quarter leading by as much as six, but BMU was able to outscore Life U 15-10 in the fourth to earn the win.
Up next, the Running Eagles will return home to the Eagles' Nest next Wednesday, Jan. 31 at 5:30 p.m.
