Women’s Rugby Cruises to Win Over BYU and Fort Miami

Marietta, GA - Life University women's rugby had a successful Saturday as they beat both BYU and Fort Miami on Lupo Family Field. 

Life U vs. BYU

Life U started off strong as Avery Morgan ran down the sideline two minutes into the game to score the first try, making the score 5-0. BYU's defense was able to hold the Running Eagles back from the try line for a while until Harley Kallichuk scored the second try off the game in the 14th minute to extend the lead to 10-0.

The Running Eagles kept rolling past BYU as Azhinaye Barner scored her first try of the game in the 19th minute. Nina Mason took care of the conversion to make the score 17-0. Just before halftime, Angelina Niu received the ball and bulldozed through the defense to add another try. Another conversion by Mason extended the Running Eagles' lead to 24-0 as the two teams went into halftime. 

Coming into the second half, Life U kept the flow going as Kallichuk scored her second try of the game making the score 29-0. Only two minutes later, Barner followed the lead and scored her second try in which Mason took care of the conversion yet again. In the 48th minute, Bella Vogel came running down the right side to add another try to the scoreboard making the score 41-0. BYU kept fighting and were able to add their first try off the game in the 52nd minute to shorten Life U's lead, 41-7.

Barner was on a roll and added her third and fourth try off the game in the 56th and 61st minute in which Allexia English took care of both the conversions to extend the score, 55-7. The Running Eagles' kept pushing down BYU's defense to score a try through Madison Doyle in the 67th minute. The game didn't end there, just before the final whistle, Mason scored the last try of the game to make the score 65is -7. Vogel took care of the conversion to make the final score of the game 67-7. 

 

Life U vs. Fort Miami 

The Running Eagle's took the lead early in the game against Fort Miami as Cara Workman scored the first try in the third minute. Life U kept pushing down Fort Miami's defense and were able to score three tries within ten minutes, Joannah Skucek scored two of the tries and Sarah Barsoum one. Jemma Lees took care of three out of the four conversions to put the Running Eagles' in a 26-0 lead. Fort Miami was able to add a try to the scoreboard in the 37th minute to go into halftime 26-5. 

Going into the second half, the Running Eagles' kept working hard, eager to score more tries. Barsoum scored her second try of the game in the 50th minute to make the score 31-5. Only four minutes later, Julia Butzirus stepped up to add another try for Life U. 

Ciara Te'o was able to score two tries only four minutes apart. Lees followed up with a conversion, bumping up the score to 48-5. In the 72nd and 74th minute of the game, Tinerudo Mawoyo followed the lead and scored two other tries. Shortly after, Christina Opeti added the last try of the game, extending the Running Eagles' lead to 65-5. Lees took care of two more conversions which led to the final score of 67-5. 

Next up, Life U will host 2.0 Select on Saturday November 16, at 1PM at Lupo Family Field.
