Women's Basketball Comes Up Short against Bethel in Running Eagle Classic

MARIETTA, GA — The Life University's women's basketball team faced a tough challenge against undefeated Bethel (TN) Saturday afternoon, falling 77-60 at the Eagles' Nest to conclude this year's Life U Running Eagle Classic. Despite strong efforts, the Running Eagles were unable to match Bethel's consistent scoring and rebounding.

The game opened with Bethel taking control early, building an 11-point lead by the end of the first quarter. The Running Eagles struggled offensively, scoring just nine points in the opening period, compared to Bethel's 20. Bethel's Madison Hart led the charge with eight first-quarter points, setting the tone for the game.

In the second quarter, Life U showed flashes of resilience. Brionna Sims contributed five points, including a key layup off an assist from Kenya Robinson at the 5:48 mark. However, Bethel's defense held strong, forcing multiple turnovers and maintained a 39-20 halftime lead.

The third quarter saw Life U begin to match the pace and scoring of Bethel as Sims added seven points in the period, including five free throws.  The Running Eagles outscored Bethel 18-17 in the period. Tajma Krslak provided a spark off the bench, hitting two three-pointers in the fourth quarter as the Running Eagles tried to cut into the deficit. Despite their efforts, Bethel's balanced scoring and dominance on the boards, led by Hart's 21 points and nine rebounds, kept the Running Eagles at bay.

Overall, Life U struggled shooting the ball, converting only 30.9% of their field goal attempts and 25% from beyond the arc. Bethel shot 43.1% from the field and 33.3% from three-point range. The rebounding battle also favored Bethel, who secured 48 boards compared to Life's 40.

Sims led the Running Eagles with 15 points and six rebounds. Kenya Robinson contributed 11 points and seven rebounds, while Kaden McCorvey added defensive energy with two blocks and three steals. Madison Hart's dominant performance for Bethel fuel the Bears in their win.

With the loss, Life University moves to 8-6 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

Up next, the Running Eagles take a road trip to face Cumberland University in Lebanon, TN this upcoming Thursday for a non-conference contest.
