MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Life U women's basketball team battled it out for the win against a tough defensive Brewton-Parker team Friday evening.
Brionna Sims finished with 19 points and ten rebounds to lead the team in the close game and Guard
Dianis Hurtado followed up with eleven points and four rebounds. Â
In a tough defensive battle by both teams, Life U took control with a 8-6 run over the starting five minutes of the first quarter. In the last five minutes of the first quarter, the Running Eagles' went on a 7-4 run to extend the lead after Sims, Hurtado, and
Kaci Scott made successful shots.Â
Life U led the entire second half keeping the Baron trailing. After one steal by Sims and several successful attacks, the Running Eagle was able to extend their lead to 31-24 in the second quarter.
The lead for Life U continued on the game plan as the team reached the game high lead with nine points. The extended lead did not remain throughout the third quarter as the Barons clawed their way back into the contest as they were able to cut their deficit to 46-43 by the end of the period.Â
Brewton-Parker nearly completed the miraculous comeback, taking the lead with 6:09 left in the fourth quarter, but Life U was able to push back by creating enough space to take the win. The last few minutes were close as the two teams battled back and forth to take the lead on the scoreboard. Within the last minute, the Running Eagles' and the Baron tied twice and each team held the lead once. As the final whistle was blown, the Running Eagles' came out with a 60-59 victory.Â
Up next, Life U will be back in action against Freed-Hardeman at the Eagles' Nest to hos the Life U Classic on Friday, December 13th at 6 pm.

- After the Barons' cut the Life U lead in the final minute, the Running Eagles were able to pull away enough to secure the win.Â

- Sims and Hurtado both delivered a dominant performance, showcasing their versatility with 19 and eleven points.Â
