Running Eagles Rally Past Shorter for 14-7 Road Victory

ROME, Ga. - After trailing the first quarter, the Life U women's lacrosse team rallied and the offense went to work for an 14-7 victory. The win marks the fourth straight victory for the Running Eagles this season. 

The Running Eagles trailed 2-1 in the first quarter, but outscored the Hawks 5-0 run in the second quarter to help secure the win to help Life U improve 4-0. 

Life U had a balanced scoring attack with five players scoring on the day. Junior Lexi Santiago led the way scoring a career-high of six goals. 

Nicole Ortiz scored three times and Alyssa Curto scored twice with three assists.  Freshman Audrey Cook was also able to put up two goals and Annslee Warchol added one goal too. 

Goalie Ashley Hammel was steady with seven saves in the win. 

The game was back and forth in the early going as the Running Eagles scored the opening goal of the game before Shorter added two in a row to take the lead going into the second half.

Life U was able to retake the lead after one quarter with five goals in response, as Santiago and Curto both scored twice to put the Running Eagles up 6-2.

Although the Running Eagles led going into the break, Shorter fought back, with two goals in the third. The Running Eagles continued to take control with a furious rally that was capped by three straight goals towards the end of the third from Ortiz and two goals from Santiago in the last minute.

With the lead, the Running Eagles saw the Hawks out score Life U 3-2, but were able to hold on to win 14-7.

Up next, Life U will host Truett-McConnell Tuesday February 27 at 6 p.m. on Lupo Family Field. 

TURNING POINT:

- Life U used a 5-0 run in the second quarter, punctuated by two goals from both Lexi Santiago and Alyssa Curto, to take control of the contest.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:

- Santiago's six-goal performance led the team and marked a career-high.

- Ortiz delivered three goals and four draw controls.

- Curto both scored two goals, while also adding three assists.
