MARIETTA, Ga. – In the last game of the regular season, the Life U men's volleyball team earned a 3-1 win over Cumberland University (Tenn.) at home Wednesday. Diego Martinez led the team with 14 kills, nearly, while Carlos Pinto totaled 42 assists for a career-best mark.

Life U took an early lead in the opening set and jumped up to a 18-13 lead before the Phoenix tried to mount a comeback. The Running Eagles took the first set 25-22 and led 22-15 in the second.

Life U appeared to be coasting in the second and took a 25-17 win in the second set, but Cumberland was not giving up as they edged out the Running Eagles in the third set. The Phoenix led 19-10 after a four point run secured the lead for Cumberland.

The Running Eagles tried to make a comeback, but it was the Phoenix who avoided the sweep with a 25-18 win in the third. Life U and Cumberland battled it out early in  the fourth set but the Running Eagles went on an 8-2 run to create enough room to take the win 25-21. 

TURNING POINT:

--The Phoenix stormed back to take the third set and make it a 2-1 contest but Life U closed out the fourth set with a 25-21 win to claim the match.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:

- Carlos Pinto accounted for all but four assists during the match as the Running Eagle had 42 of Life U's 46 assists.
