MARIETTA, Ga. - The Life U women's soccer team was unable to capitalize on an early lead, falling 3-1 on Tuesday evening against #9 Cumberland University.

On a beautiful day at Lupo Family Field, the Running Eagles took a 1-0 lead after a cross from Jeanne Brigand to land in the feet of sophomore Sara Diaz who was able to put it in the back of the net. However, the Phoenix answered with two quick goals shortly after and made the 2-1 advantage to go into the break.

Coming out of the locker room both teams fought in the middle of the field until in the 84' minute Cumberland was able to put another one past the Running Eagles to guarantee their 3-1 win. 

Cumberland led in the shot count 16-10 while Life U goalkeeper Justine Candel made three saves.

From there, Cumberland was able to hold off the Running Eagles equalizing to improve to 7-0 on the season.

Up next, the Running Eagles will travel to Thomas University for their first SSAC match up next Wednesday September 18 .

TURNING POINT:

- Cumberland scored twice early in the second half to turn the tables on Life U and earn the 3-1 victory.

- Diaz notched her first goal of the 2024 season to give Life U a 1-0 lead to start the game.
