WEST POINT, Ga. - Trailing 14-12 in the fifth set, the Life U women's volleyball team were struggling to make a pass, but the Running Eagles were able to prevail with an impressive 6-1 run to claim a 3-2 win over Point Saturday afternoon.Â
It was a tough battle in West Point with Point jumping out in front to claim the first and second set 25-17 and 26-24, but in the third, the Running Eagles Eagles answered and took charge and snagged a 25-13 decision.Â
Trailing 2-1, Life U was not ready to lose the battle yet. Point led 14-13 until the Running Eagles were able to take off and Destiny Drakeford was able to push the game to five sets with a huge block to take the 25-22 win.Â
In the fifth, Life U seemed to be running out of gas while the Skyhawks took momentum, but the Running Eagles began to rally and pushed through to trail 13-11.Â
Kelsey Cassey tallied two kills to send herself back to serve, where she earned a service ace too.
In the comeback, Erica Irby was able to add two impressive kills to allow Life U to take the 18-16 win in the final set.Â
Up next, Life U will travel to Brewton-Parker College to compete in an SSAC match up at 5 pm in Mount Vernon, Ga.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
--Saturday's 12 kills were a season-high for Cassey Kelsey
--Freshman Destiny Drakeford totaled nine blocks giving her season-best and also added eight kills to the board.Â
--Erica Irby also led the team with 14 digs in the match.
