MARIETTA, Ga. – The Life U women's basketball team fell short in a Thursday night SSAC clash against Brewton-Parker. Despite strong individual efforts, the Running Eagles lost in the final seconds 75-72.

Brionna Sims finished with 20 points and seven rebounds to lead the team in the heart-breaker.  Aniyah Offutt followed with 20 points and four rebounds.

The first quarter was close between the Running Eagles and Brewton-Parker. Early on, the Barons took an early lead with a free throw, but Life U quickly responded with strong plays from Offutt, who scored a layup and a three-pointer. In the opening quarter, both teams struggled to score points. The quarter ended with Brewton-Parker ahead 12-11, despite six early points from Sims.

The Running Eagles started the second quarter with an early three-pointer from Offutt, but they struggled to extend their lead past that. Life U then continued to trail the rest of the quarter despite free throws and layups from Kaden McCorvey, Offutt, and Sims. The Running Eagles finished the quarter trailing 34-30.

Another early start in the third quarter with a three-pointer from Dianis Hurtado narrowed the gap to one, 34-33, the Barons responded with two free throws before Hurtado came back with another three-pointer to even the score at 36 apiece. After that, efforts from the free throw line and layups from Kaci Scott, Khloe Vaughn, Offutt, and Sims extended Life's lead to 47-39. The Running Eagles closed the quarter with a 53-51 lead.

To start the fourth, the Running Eagles once again started hot with a three-pointer from Hurtado and a jumper from Offutt. The team kept increasing the gap as another three-pointer from Hurtado fell through and multiple layups from Scott and McCorvey extended the team's lead to 66-53, their largest of the contest. The Running Eagles then struggled to convert any baskets thereafter as Brewton-Parker slowly clawed back into the contest. With only 34 seconds left on the clock, and a score of 72-72, a desperation long-range heave from BPC's Kaziah Terrell fell through to seal the win for the Barons.

Overall, the Running Eagles had six three-pointers in the contest to Brewton-Parker's four and outshot the Barons from the floor 46% to 34%. The Barons dominated the rebounding battle, 53-34.

Up next, the Running Eagles will be back in action against Thomas University at the Eagles' Nest on Saturday, January 18th at 12 pm.
